By default Buzz notifies you about direct messages and @mentions. Everything else is yours to tune, channel by channel.
Quiet a busy channel
Open the channel
Go to the channel that's pinging too much.
Mute it
Turn on Mute. The channel stays in your sidebar and you can read it any time — it just stops sending notifications.
Keep the important stuff
Even muted, a direct @mention still reaches you. Muting kills the noise, not the signal.
The right setup for most people: leave DMs and mentions on, mute the high-traffic channels you only skim, and rely on @mentions to pull you in when you're actually needed.
Across your devices
- Desktop app alerts you while Buzz is running, even when its window is hidden. Quit it and the alerts stop until you open it again — see Get Buzz on every device.
- Mobile app notifies you while it is open. Notifications that reach you when it is closed are not available yet, on any device.
- Browser notifies you while the tab is open.
Heads-down for an hour? Mute the noisy channels rather than muting everything — that way a real @mention or DM still gets through.
